Christmas Celebration 2008. Destination: Rockefeller Center

College Campus Tour: Fordham University

On November 15th, 2008, the Rosedale High School Club went on a tour of Fordham's campus in the Bronx. Janine and Alanna, both Juniors of Fordham, offered their assistance as tour guides. Our first stop was a classroom at Fordham, which has an average class size of about 20 students. There our tour guide showed us an orientation video about Fordham University. It was a very educational video that illustrated the life of a Fordham student.

We then took a tour of the campus grounds. We stopped by the Walsh Library, which contains over 1 million volumes and 380 thousand government documents. The Walsh Library also has services including the science library, audiovisuals, electronic services, archives, special collections, and microforms.

One of our favorite stops was Queen's Court, which is established to house first-year students. We even got a look into an everyday dorm room. Special thanks to the students in Queen's Court!

Our next stop was Keating Hall. We learned that it was built in the 1930s; also, that it is the center of the campus. It has even been used for filming a number of famous movies over the years. This hall houses the art studio, where we saw pieces of art done by the Fordham students themselves.

Keating also houses a lecture hall called "Keating First." There is also a seal and it is said that if you step on it you will fail your first semester. Be careful not to step on it!

After a long tour, our final stop, and one of the most interesting, was the Lunch Hall, where we even got the chance to eat the food.

We really had a good time. Let's see what others thought of our trip:

Question:

Were you excited to visit Fordham University? Why?

Answers:

Yes, because this was my first college tour.

Of course. It is an excellent opportunity for our high school students.

Question:

What was your favorite part of the tour?

Answers:

The lunch hall, because I got a chance to eat college food.

The dorm rooms, because it is an influencing factor when picking a college.

Thank you, Fordham, and Janine and Alanna, for this tour. We had a great time!

2008

Hey! This is the new and improved Rosedal HSC blog!
Starting this November, there's going to be more action (BAM!) more drama (GASP!) and alot more fun (YAY!).

Here's somethings we've already done:
> Youth Alliance Scavenger Hunt (Team Luz!!! Natalie, Jill, Crystal, Zuly & Marie)
> Cooking Session (Pilar Apples >best apples ever, thanks Pilar<)
> Budget Presentation
>Writing Workshop (Andrea deSimone and Carol Ann Brammer)
> Movie Critique (Truman show)
> POTS (Part Of The Solution)

POTS is a soup kitchen in our neighborhood helping out those who need it most. Check out any local soup kitchens in your area; they really appreciate all the help they can get.
Laura, Camilla and Vanessa spent their time sorting out donated clothes for the homeless.
Natalie, Jill, Zuly and Crystal spent their time organizing the pantry filled with donated food.

So what did you do with your day today?
How did you feel about the Election?
